How to disable system restore on Windows 10: System restore point is a key feature used in windows for system protection. Creating a system restore point will help you to undo unwanted system changes caused by any third party softwares or drivers or updates. System restore point gives the user an option to go back to their system previous state (Restore point) without losing personal data. 

It is recommended not to disable system restore points. By disabling this feature you may get some disk space, but it’s a bad idea.

Note: Disabling system protection will delete all existing restore points.

How-To:

Method 1. Search for create a restore point

  1. Open the start menu, search for create a restore point from the task bar and select it from the search of results.
  2. On the system protection tab in system properties, select your computer system drive and check whether the system protection is on or off. If it’s OFF you no need to do much because your restore point feature is in disabled state. If it’s ON, you can click on the configure button, then a system protection Window will open. 
  3. Select the Disable system protection
  4. Click Apply and Okay

Method 2. Disable System Restore by using “sysdm.cpl” command

  1. Enter sysdm.cpl in command prompt (For how to access command Line, Click here)
  2. Once the system properties Window opens you can select on system protection. Select your computer system drive and check whether the system protection is on or off. . If it’s OFF you no need to do much because your restore point feature is in disabled state. If it’s ON You can click on the configure button, then a system protection Window will open. 
  3. Select the Disable system protection
  4. Click Apply and Okay

Method 3. Disable System Restore by Accessing via control Panel

  1. Open start menu, search for control panel from the task bar and select it from the search of results
  2. On the control Panel, click system then choose system protection
  3. Once the system properties Window opens you can select on system protection. Select your computer system drive and check whether the system protection is on or off. . If it’s OFF you no need to do much because your restore point feature is in disabled state. If it’s ON You can click on the configure button, then a system protection Window will open. 
  4. Select the Disable system protection
  5. Click Apply and Okay
