How-To:

Fix Mail App Error code 0x8019019a in Windows 10/11

Method 1: Re-add the Email Account to the Mail App

The email account issue could be a result of a temporary glitch in the communication modules of the system. The glitch may get cleared if you remove and then re-add the email account to the Windows Mail app.

  1. Launch the Mail app and click on Accounts (in the left pane of the window, just under New Mail).
  2. Then click on your Yahoo account and select Delete Account
  3. Now confirm to delete the Yahoo account and reboot your PC after exiting the Mail app
  4. Upon reboot, add back the Yahoo account to the Mail app and check if the account issue is resolved.
  5. If not, then repeat the above steps but when adding the Yahoo account, make sure to uncheck the option of Stay Signed in and check if the account problem is solved.
  6. If the issue persists, then repeat steps 1 to 4 but at the Add Account window, select Other Account POP, IMAP (not Yahoo), and then fill out the details to add the Yahoo account.
  7. Then check if the Mail app is working fine with the Yahoo account.

If the issue resurfaces, then you can check if removing the Yahoo account and then adding it back after resetting the Yahoo password on the website resolves the issue.

You may try to remove all the accounts from the Mail app and then just add back the Yahoo account to check if it resolves the issue (but keep in mind that this step may erase your Calendar entries).

Method 2: Reset the Mail App to the Defaults

You may fail to add the Yahoo account to the Mail app if the installation of Mail itself is corrupt. In this scenario, resetting the Mail app to the defaults may solve the problem.

  1. Hit the Windows key and type Mail. Then right-click on Mail and choose App Settings.
  2. Now click on the Terminate button and then on the Reset button but keep in mind that all the App date including saved email/passwords will be lost (do not worry, your emails will be saved on the website of the email provider).
  3. Then launch the Mail app and check if you can successfully add the Yahoo account to it.

Method 3: Generate an App Password and Use it to Add the Yahoo Account to the Mail App

Due to security concerns, Yahoo has implemented tons of security features to its accounts. One such feature is the use of app-specific passwords for less secure apps like the Mail app. If your Yahoo username or password is not working with the Mail app, then using the App-specific password may solve the problem.

  1. Remove your Yahoo account from the Mail app (as discussed in solution 2).
  2. Then launch a web browser and navigate to the Account Info page of Yahoo Mail.
  3. Now click on Generate App Password (near the bottom of the page) and then expand the dropdown of Select Your App.
  4. Then select Other App and click on the Generate button.
  5. Now copy the Generated App password and launch the Mail app on your system.
  6. Then click on Account (in the left pane) and select Add Account (in the right pane).
  7. Now select Yahoo and then enter your credentials but in the password field, paste the Generated App Password (copies at step 5).
  8. Then check if the Yahoo account is successfully added to the Mail app.
  9. If not, then remove the Yahoo account from the Mail app (step 1) and then add again with the app password but at Add an Account window, choose Other Account POP, IMAP.
  10. Then fill in your details and check if the Yahoo account is successfully added to the Mail app.

If the issue is still there, then you can use the web version of Yahoo Mail (till the resolution of the issue) or a 3rd party mail client like Mozilla Thunderbird. If you are desperate enough to add a Yahoo account to the mail app, then resetting your PC may solve the problem.

Method 4: Update Windows and the Mail App to the Latest Build

To patch reported bugs and add new features, Microsoft updates Windows every now and then. You may fail to add the Yahoo account to the Mail app if the Mail app (or Windows) of your system is not updated to the latest build as it can create incompatibility between the OS modules. In this context, updating the Windows and Mail app of your system to the latest build may solve the problem.

1.Update the Windows of your system to the latest build. Make sure even no optional update is left over.
2.Then press the Windows key and type Mail. Then right-click on Mail and select Share.
3.Now the Microsoft Store will be launched with the Mail app page and if it does not work, close the Microsoft Store and repeat step 2.
4.Then check if an update for the Mail app is available. If so, then update the Mail app and reboot your system
5. Upon reboot, check if you can use your Yahoo account with the Mail app.
